Totally Unexciting Non-News
I’m up early. As usual. I can’t help myself. I go to bed as soon as I get home from work. I put my pajamas on immediately after work, anyway. Then, since I have nowhere else to sit in my apartment, I lay in bed with the computer and watch a movie or a tv episode or two & fall asleep by 9:30.
I don’t really mind. I love going to sleep. I love it bad. My friend Annika says it’s a sign that I’m a full-fledged grown-up, but given that I’m playing the “will it or won’t it bounce” game with my rent check this week– it’s more likely I’m less a grown-up & more just getting old.

In other, equally unexciting news, I ate a few pieces of crappy Halloween candy yesterday. Not the good kind (Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers, stuff like that)– the weird generic kind. I had 1/3 of a Sugar Daddy, 2 pieces of unmarked peanut butter taffy, a chocolate eyeball, & 2 pieces of some no-name peanut butter shell crisp thing. It wasn’t quite on par with a mini-Butterfinger… it was the size of a little piece of hard candy. So, I didn’t do much damage– but I did enough to feel like a fatty & a failure. Curse you, paleo diet! Curse you!
Funny that I feel absolutely no horror at drinking a cup of delicious Butter Coffee.

Watched 5 spoiler clips for this season’s premiere of Bones (airs tomorrow). Pretty sure all the cutest couple-y moments from the entire episode were included in those clips and now there is no reason to watch. But I will still watch. Because I am an undiscerning slut when it comes to cutesy tension-y moments between two attractive leads.
By the way, Monday’s episode of Castle was really good. Your standard cop-show bank robbery-type episode and all that, but made terrific by presence of Nathan FIllion. Also by Stana Katic’s outfits. Less so her hair. Also, can I just add that I love Susan Sullivan (who plays Martha Rodgers, Castle’s mother)? She is awesome.
What else?
Oh, B got me started with Star Trek: Next Generation, even though he’s now moved on to Deep Space Nine. I am hooked on that shit… but am now distracted by the Supernatural and those attractive boys.
It’s a shame I have to go to work all day in a dreary office. I don’t even have computer access there. We do everything by hand. I would love to blog about the bat-shit people I work with, the specific office dynamic, the peculiar customers & their unique requests/complaints. Once, for example, a customer called to complain about a light bulb. She wanted to return it as it was “casting shadows”. True story.
There’s more where that came from, but setting the groundwork will be quite the ordeal. Oh, these people. Mercy.
Oh, by the way…
I’m still here. Still fighting the fight. Still mediocre. Still trying to stay on the paleo straight-and-narrow (to varying levels of success). Did some things I planned to do, didn’t do others. Have some vague goals, have some clearer goals– some other things that are somewhere between crazy-sauce dreams & lofty goals. Once I figure out how to get from A to B, or even in that general direction– I’ll be good. There’s so many things I want to do, but I’m just too damn tired after work. My best hours of the day are between 6-11am. Which is a real bummer since I’m stuck at the office doing the world’s most unextraordinary, even hateful, work during those hours.
IN OTHER NEWS…
- Bulletproof Coffee is my new favorite. Seriously, butter coffee. Better than heavy cream. Swear it. Just make sure it is UNSALTED.
- I’m still dating my boyfriend. Passed the 1-year mark. W00t!
- Bones‘ new season premieres this Thursday. That show is one of my guilty pleasures. I don’t even care if you judge me for it.
- I have my own apartment now. I can barely buy my groceries, but I have my own sanctuary. I don’t have a couch, table, or a TV. Or a microwave. Or sheets on my bed (re: lazy). But I have my apartment. Mainly it’s awesome, sometimes lonely.
- I had a birthday in September. I’m 31. Officially getting old. It’s all good.
And that’s it for now.
Nothing of Any Importance
I’m cranky.
I did Plow Pose in its full expression last night in my Moonlight Flow yoga class. I’m impressed.
I was tagged in several FB pictures recently where I had either visible tummy rolls, a piece of mint leaf from a mojito stuck in my teeth or a booger in my nose.
I said some really clever & witty things on Twitter recently. I know you’re jealous.
Sometimes the only reason I don’t seem as neurotic as I used to (in my early-to-mid-20s) is because I’m too tired to care. Also, I’m less attractive than I used to be & the world seems, at least a little bit, less full of potential. The decline in my neuroses is directly & oppositely affected by my increasing lack of faith that I’m going to become a wealthy, beloved jet-setter with fancy plans & a well-kept wardrobe.
I really like full-fat coconut milk & things that are shiny and/or have sequins. Not necessarily those things together.
I am going for a run now.
This is what I’m eating…
I just want to say that I made an awesome lunch:
-Grass-fed ground beef (cooked in a dab of avocado oil) w/ purple cabbage, onions, a bit chopped garlic.
-Baked sweet potato w/ a little ghee & a dash of cinnamon.
-hardboiled egg
-a few raspberries in coconut milk.
That sounds like an awful lot of food.
Especially given that I had some of that ground beef/cabbage combo for breakfast with 2 pcs of bacon & 2 eggs.
Whatever. It was awesome.
… Right?

Also, I ran the Dexter-Ann Arbor Run (10k) on Sunday w/ B’s sister. It was so fun & I even PR’d it.
Am thinking about doing CrossFit again but since my Yoga payment is likely going to send me into the red this week, I probably ought to see if I can come up w/ a budget for myself first. I’m such a fucktard with money. OR, I live firmly in the present. Throwing caution to the wind.
… or probably just the first thing, a fucktard when it comes to money.
Oh. HAI.
Been awhile…
Still trying to eat less like an asshole & more paleo-like, meeting with some success… occasionally.
Still doing yoga, still running… occasionally.
Did Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago last month, that was awesome.
Game of Thrones premiered on HBO, also last month, also awesome.
B met my parents, finally, in March. Also awesome.
Discovered I like dark chocolate, almond butter & macadamia nuts way too much & need to find a way to eat them like a responsible adult.
This is all I have to say right now.
Whoopsie Crumbs: Blog Update FAIL
Oh, heeeeeeeey, blog reader…
Sorry about the long absence. I got bored of blogging about my Paleo Challenge… also, I wasn’t being a great example of the Paleo Lifestyle– far too many cheats for my taste. I’m still somewhere in the 70-80% range, but was going to start feeling like a total asshole if I had to keep blogging every single thing I put into my mouth (…that’s what she said). Oh. And I’m lazy.
On a related note, got some folks on the paleo wagon & they’re far better at it than I am. They actually read the books I recommended on the topic, whereas I… merely own the books & plan to read them in entirety… one day.
I spent a third of my entire paycheck at Whole Foods & Trader Joe’s yesterday. I’m pretty sure that my checking account will be marginally in the red when my Amex automatic bill pay clears today or tomorrow, but at least I’ll have taken measures to assure food is in the fridge.
Too bad I also discovered a dress I really want from ModCloth.com. Quel dommage!
Still loving yoga, starting to hit up the gym regularly… still avoiding running like the plague. I think I psyched myself out. I’m going to have to get over that soon– I have races & events looming in the not-so-distant future.

Reading Katherine Dunn’s Geek Love for book club and am really enjoying it.
Finished Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card and it was awesome.
Thanks to B, I’m now also obsessed with the tv series Angel– which I started watching in the middle of season 3, apropos of nothing… Am pretty sure David Boreanaz plays only one character ever. He’s lucky he’s good at it. I realize Agent Booth is Angel. Same person.

By the way, I’m still awesome at breakfast scrambles– it tends to be my most paleo meal of the day. Today, for example, I made a big ol’ paleo breakfast: 2 pieces of bacon, 2-egg scramble w/ garlic, chopped shallots, scallions, spinach & mushrooms (all cooked in the bacon grease). A few raspberries & blueberries in a bit of coconut milk on the side. YUM! So freaking good.
Paleo Challenge, #14 & #15
Day #14
Honestly? I don’t feel like updating this right now.
I did fairly well, eating-wise (except for the piece of cake I had at a wedding shower).
Went rollerskating with B & Rob on Sunday. The regulars at the roller rink should be characters in a Christopher Guest movie.
Day #15
Had a pretty standard paleo day (beginning with one of my excellent scrambles with lots of veggies & some bacon)– except for the cup of tomato basil soup I had with lunch. Am still angsty over it. It definitely had cream in it & I’m not sure what else might have been in it.
I had vinegar & oil dressing with my Traverse City (w/ grilled chicken salad). I’m beginning to prefer vinegar & oil to any other dressing. One day maybe I’ll even progress to lemon juice.
Dinner was an entire bag of buffalo jerky (whoops) (apparently there’s 3.5 servings in 1 bag. LIES!), some raw cashews, & 1/2 of a pear. After yoga I tried some of my roommates beef stew– so good. All paleo, as far as I know.
So, portion-control is still a major issue. Am working on it.

In other news, been slacking on the running. Just not motivated when it’s this cold & wet. Yuck.
Went to moonlight yoga on Monday (Day #15) & signed up for 60 days unlimited at Serendipity Yoga. Also shopped around for a gym & think I found one I really like. It’s month-to-month & there’s no BS contract that makes it near-impossible to leave. Customer reviews were good. It’ll be my next paycheck’s main purchase. Woohoo!
